General Care & Philosophy

  • A: Licensed Midwife (LM) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) Hayley provides complete care throughout pregnancy, birth, newborn, and postpartum. Services include prenatal visits, homebirth attendance, newborn care for two weeks, and postpartum support for up to 6–8 weeks

  • A: Fireside Midwifery serves low-risk clients with normal, healthy pregnancies. If complications arise (such as high blood pressure, preterm labor, or gestational diabetes requiring medication), hospital transfer may be recommended

  • A: Yes! Birth is recognized as a personal and community event. You are encouraged to invite your support team at your comfort level

Prenatal & Pregnancy Care

  • A: You’ll receive a full supply list, including clean linens, towels, receiving blankets, a thermometer, peri pads, and snacks. A pre-assembled birth kit is available directly from Hayley or YourWaterBirth.com

  • A: Yes. Hayley carries oxygen, resuscitation tools, IV supplies, and medications for emergencies such as hemorrhage or infection. Pain medication (like epidurals) and surgical tools are not provided, and hospital transfer would be needed for those

  • A: If necessary, Hayley will transfer you to a hospital for advanced care. Most families who transfer return to Fireside Midwifery for postpartum and newborn follow-up

Postpartum & Newborn

  • A: Up to 8 weeks after birth, including checkups for physical recovery, emotional support, breastfeeding guidance, and newborn care

  • A: Expect bleeding similar to a period that tapers off over 2–6 weeks, perineal healing with sitz baths or herbal packs, and the need for 8–10 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period (including naps). Rest is strongly emphasized for faster recovery

  • A: Hayley monitors your baby’s temperature, breathing, skin color, weight, feeding, and elimination in the first two weeks. You’ll also receive guidance on cord care, jaundice, and newborn behavior

  • A: After the first 2 weeks of newborn care, your baby will see the pediatrician of your choice. Records will be faxed to your provider

Client Responsibilities

  • A: Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, take recommended supplements, reduce stress, avoid harmful substances, and educate yourself on pregnancy and birth. Fireside offers a lending library and handouts for extra support

  • A: Yes. Doula support is highly encouraged, especially for first-time parents or those with trauma histories. Childbirth education classes are also strongly recommended for first-time or unmedicated births
